His Highness Sheikh Hamad Al Thani was presented with a gift following the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes, thanking him and his family for 10 years of support for Royal Ascot through QIPCO Holding.

Sir Francis Brooke, Her Majesty’s Representative at Ascot, presented a bronze of Roaring Lion on behalf of the Ascot Authority and all at Ascot Racecourse.

The bronze captures the moment Roaring Lion won the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot in 2018, a hugely significant success for Sheikh Hamad, his family and the whole Qatar Racing team.

On Wednesday 9th June, Charters School in Sunningdale was visited by two working drugs dogs who walked around the school site with their handlers and interacted with students from all year groups.

The initiative, which was organised by the school’s Safeguarding Team, acts as a deterrent for students who may be tempted by illegal substances and is part of a wider programme to educate students about the subject and the impacts that drugs can have on individuals.

Mr John Fletcher, Headteacher at Charters School said, “The visit is part of our ongoing drugs education programme and safeguarding work across all year groups.  We are pleased to say that the dogs did not indicate any issues that concern us as a school community.  We will remain vigilant to the harm that drugs can have on individuals and work with families and outside agencies to support individuals and keep our school environment safe for all.”

On Tuesday 25th May, Year 7 students in Mrs Boorman’s English lesson, at Charters School,  were immersed in the word of Harry Potter, to help them organise their writing into paragraphs more effectively.

Surrounded by life-sized cardboard cut-outs of the characters from J.K. Rowling’s first book, the students looked at the letter that Harry received in The Philosopher’s Stone which invited him to Hogwarts for the first time. They were then asked to write a similar letter to inform a new student that they had been offered a place at Charters.

The students had a great time learning about the structure of paragraphs and it was wonderful to see them use some of the books that were donated to the English Department last Christmas by a parent.

TSB bank, Ascot branch, 21 High Street, SL5 7JE closed on June 10th  2021. While this is very disappointing for Ascot's  to TSB’s customers in Ascot, the Federation of Sub Postmasters  reminds us that alternative banking provision is available to local residents at post office branches nearby.
The nearest post offices to the closing TSB bank, Ascot branch are:

1. Brookside PO,  140-142 New Road,  Ascot, SL5 8QH
2. Sunninghill PO, Kings Road, Sunninghill, Ascot, SL5 9AA
3. Fernbank Road PO, 1 Warren Row, Ascot, SL5 8HN

Each of these branches offers banking services - including deposits, free cash withdrawals and balance checks, as well as offering face-to-face access to government services, bill payment, foreign currency, travel insurance and, of course, postal services. There are currently 2,000 free-to-use ATMs installed across the UK post office network also.
Post offices are proving vital to retaining people’s and business’s access to cash as the banks continue to desert the high street in order to cut costs and increase their profits.
Every post office plays a vital role within the heart of the local community. Post offices provide a reliable and essential service which has continued at a high standard across the whole of the UK throughout the pandemic.
