ART

The Ascot Art Group, which meets on Tuesday evenings at the North Ascot Community Centre in Fernbank Road, North Ascot, has a few vacancies. All skill levels are welcome. To find out more, contact Terry Earthy on 01344  883950.

'Have Your Ever Wanted to Paint - but  thought that you couldn't?' Discover and develop the artist within at the new Rendezvous Renoirs, creative painting course, on Thursdays from 10.30am -1pm, at the Coronation Memorial Institute in Church Road. Tutor, Aurora Spain, will guide you through colour, materials, design techniques, composition, balance and much more. There will also be a class outing. Fees are £140 per ten week term.  There is also an opportunity to join one of Aurora's painting holidays at a lovely venue in Catalonia (no experience necessary). The Sunningdale Art Society meets at 7.45pm on the 2nd Thursday of the month, at the Elvian Suite at the Licensed Victuallers School, London Road.  Members enjoy demonstrations by very interesting artists, workshops and outings. Art Junction  runs at the Charlotte Pratt Hall, Chavey Down Road, Winkfield.  There is currently a waiting list for  after -school sessions at Sunningdale. (After school sessions are also held in Marlow and Maidenhead).

CHURCH

Winkfield Row Methodist Church, small and tucked in a row of houses opposite Lambrook Haileybury School, was opened as long ago as 1854, but has been thoroughly refurbished in recent years and provides a comfortable environment for traditional worship on Sundays at 10.30 am.  Its small but very friendly congregation offers a warm welcome to all.The popular annual Winkfield Row May Day Fair started as their brainchild.   Contact Daphne Norgate on 01276 476141.

Radio Heatherwood entertains patients 24 hours a day.  Brothers, David Smith and Peter Davidson Smith, have run the station as volunteers for over 30 years. Radio Heatherwood cheers  patients 24 hours a day, playing all types of music, requests, as well as comedy,  spoken word including poetry and short stories. At 11pm and 1am most nights, they play meditation sessions for those having trouble relaxing. The radio service is free. The Natalie Vinson School of Dance and Drama
 opened in 1992 and currently has over 450 students. It offers a range of classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Street Jazz, Drama, Musical Theatre, Hip-Hop, LAMDA and GCSE Dance throughout the week and on Saturdays for children aged 2 -18; as well as classes in Tap, Ballet and Jazz for Adults. Classes are held at excellent facilities in Ascot at The Marist in Sunninghill. The school has recently celebrated it's 15th Birthday and has raised over £11,000 for local and national charities, including the Thames Hospicecare and Children in Crisis. In 2007 pupils performed in 4 sell-out shows at the Camberley Theatre and achieved 100% pass rate in their examinations (including 100% A* and A grades for GCSE Dance.) Stagecoach Ascot runs 'Early Stages', a class for 4-7 year- olds, at Holy Trinity Primary School in Sunningdale on Saturdays , covering singing, dance and drama. Students are in a group with a maximum of 15, with a teacher and an assistant. They are taught half an hour of each discipline. Spaces available. Senior school, for 6-16 years, runs from 10-1pm every Saturday, also at Holy Trinity. Students are split into three groups (stages) according to age and do an hour of singing, dance, and drama. EXERCISE

Get Fit, Have Fun, Make Friends!  The Fitness League (formerly The Women’s League of Health & Beauty) is moving to the Charlotte Pratt Memorial Hall, Chavey Down Road, on Tuesday afternoons from  November 4, 2 - 3pm and classes are for women of all ages and levels of fitness. The Ascot Bridge Club was formed in 1977 and plays in the Chavey Down Community Centre hall, directly behind St. Martin's church in Church Road,

Coworth-Flexlands’ Nursery and Foundation Stage has been ranked “outstanding” – the top grade – by Ofsted following its recent inspection.  The Early Years department underwent a rigorous school Ofsted inspection and was judged on a range of categories. St Francis Pre-school is an independent, non-profit making school established in 1990.
It occcupies its own building surrounded by a large secure school playing field. The Pre-school caters for children 3-5years old and offers a high standard
of education. The childrens's experiences include sports days, family fun days and Christmas productions. There are also annual outings, threatre trips and exploration of local amenities. This is a small Pre-school, staffed by an established team of well qualified professionals and offering a high staff to child ratio.
