Ascot-based Heathfield School - an independent secondary boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, rated ‘Excellent’ across all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate – is delighted to welcome Richard Willis MA as its new Head of Sixth Form. Mr Willis has 17 years’ experience working in numerous prestigious independent day and boarding schools, most recently as Head of History and Head of Year 12/13 at Sir William Perkin’s School, Chertsey.

 Commenting on his appointment, Mr Willis said, ‘Previously, as Head of Year, I’ve experienced the pastoral highs and lows of Sixth Form life from the student’s point of view, and as head of an academic department, from a teacher’s perspective too. I believe this has prepared me well for Heathfield and the many-faceted role of Head of Sixth Form.

‘I was attracted by the ambition of Heathfield, but also the size, which allows us as teachers the most precious gift of all - time - with which we can support our young people to become their best possible selves. I’m looking forward to joining a community where each individual is supported so they can thrive.

 Pictured at the existing community orchard in Ockwells Park is the Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Community Partnerships, Public Protection and Maidenhead, Councillor Simon Werner, and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Biodiversity and Windsor Town Council, Councillor Karen Davies.

Community groups, schools, landowners and residents are invited to apply for funding available to create their very own community orchards and give a boost to nature in the Royal Borough.

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s Sustainability Team has successfully secured £27,000 from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affair’s Coronation Living Heritage Fund.

The fund celebrates the Coronation of King Charles III and was specifically established to support local tree planting initiatives. Applications are open until Wednesday 24th January. Grants of up to £6,000 are available. To apply, please visit https://rbwmtogether.rbwm.gov.uk/orchards

It is anticipated that the funding will enable the creation of around five modestly-sized community orchards. Along with allocating the funding, the council will provide expertise and practical advice and support to those who are successful in getting funding for orchards on private or public land.

The Council will also be able to make site visits and offer expertise in selecting appropriate planting sites and planning successful plantings, as well as support those who are successful in monitoring and maintaining their orchards. There will be the opportunity to link successful applicants with corporate and community groups to offer them volunteering opportunities to help plant and fence the new orchards.

LVS Ascot attends Education Today School & Supplier Awards 2023, after being shortlisted for Best use of ICT/Technology in School

LVS Ascot, an award-winning, independent co-educational day and boarding school, attended the Education Today School & Supplier Awards recently, after being shortlisted for the Best use of ICT/Technology in School Award.

The School & Supplier Awards, hosted by Education Today, recognise and reward the Suppliers, Schools and Individuals who work so tirelessly for the greater good of the Education sector. The awards are created to ensure that those with the highest levels of technical expertise and outstanding reputations are recognised amongst the community and further afield. The Best use of ICT/Technology in School Category acknowledges schools that have used IT effectively to improve the learning outcomes of their pupils, and enabled teachers to teach more effectively.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flies into town and triumphs despite the Child Catcher's best efforts!

Year 7 and Year 8 boys staged a rousing production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Jr) in the school hall recently. Accompanied by a band, the boys did themselves proud singing, dancing and acting away through this timeless classic which tells the tale of Caractacus Potts and his children, Jeremy and Jemima, together with the delectable Truly Scrumptious and a flying race car named Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, doing battle with an evil Baron and Baroness and their bumbling side-kicks, Boris and Goran, from the country of Vulgaria. The boys pulled off a joyous production much to the delight of parents, staff, boys, brothers, sisters and doting grandparents ! 

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said 'Congratulations go to all the boys who took part both on stage and behind the scenes, and of course the staff involved, for such a fun production - can't think of a better way to begin to start the Christmas countdown.'
