Councils tell government to review Heathrow expansion following climate change developments. | Local authorities opposed to Heathrow expansion say that changes in Government policy on climate change mean the case for a third runway should be reviewed urgently.

The national policy statement (ANPS) which included support for expansion at the airport was designated in June 2018 - at a time when the UK was committed to an 80 per cent reduction in emissions (by 2050).

In June this year following the advice of the Climate Change Committee (CCC) the Government amended the commitment to 100 per cent – the strengthening was based on ‘significant developments in climate change knowledge’.

Now campaigners say the same logic should be applied to the ANPS. Under planning legislation a national policy statement must be reviewed if there has been a ‘significant change in any circumstances on the basis of which any of the policy set out in the statement was decided.’

St.Francis Roman Catholic Church, South Ascot Over the weekend of 4th to 6th October, St Francis of Assisi Parish celebrated its Patronal Feast and the 130th Anniversary of the dedication of the church in Coronation Road, Ascot, Berkshire.

The 130 Fest culminated in the visit of Bishop Philip Egan to dedicate  a new stained glass window  celebrating the Ascot UCM’s 60th Anniversary, installed through their fundraising and through the generosity of a private donor, to celebrate reconciliation and peace between peoples and nations.

We were pleased to welcome our Mayor, Councillor Sayonara Luxton, Rev. Darrell Hannah from All Saints Ascot as well as members of the Union of Catholic Mothers who hosted the refreshments at their window blessing celebration (pictured above).

A mass of healing on Friday morning was followed by our evening celebrations in the St Francis School Hall opened by Fr Kevin Bidgood and our wonderful primary school choir, followed by entertainment from our Saturday and Sunday choir and musicians.

We celebrated our parish groups and ministries with an amazing display of stalls around the hall, from Children’s Liturgy to First Holy Communion and Confirmation , Little Franciscan Toddler Group to welcomers to hospitality and church cleaners, SVP to KSC, Secular Franciscan Friars to UCM and London Slough Run.

Papplewick  School, Ascot  Visit:  www.papplewick.org.uk

Papplewick was delighted to pass the Green Flag Eco assessment with flying colours and received this prestigious award last week.  Having already secured the Bronze and Silver awards, the boys had proudly shown Mrs Sandra MacLeod from the Eco School around the school at the end of September showing off their bat habitats and bird hotels.  They discussed the links with work in geography and science with topics such as fair trade and carbon footprinting.  Year 3 boys were asked to write a piece imagining what the world would look like at tipping point, and in French through the use of sounds picked up new vocabulary on a passage linked to preserving water for the planet. Finally a tour of the new year 8 boarding house took place where the boys showed their efforts in monitoring lights and windows to preserve energy and they assessed on their core knowledge and involvement.

Tom Bunbury, Headmaster said "As an Eco-school we are delighted to receive this internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning."
