Local road safety schemes, footpath improvements and flood defences are all set to receive a cash boost following approval by the RBWM Cabinet, including flood prevention works in an area of North Ascot.
Cabinet members approved plans to allocate funds to a number of highways and flood defence schemes following the announcement that further funds would be allocated to highways projects in the 2019/20 budget.
These schemes include:
- Local safety improvements on Courthouse Road in Maidenhead.
- Footway improvements will be made to Kings Road, Sunninghill, Shirley Avenue, Datchet and Kings Road, Windsor.

Flood prevention improvements to Oaklands Drive / Oaklands Court, Ascot and Horton and Wraysbury drains.
The schemes benefitting from the funding include:
- £1.9 million for road resurfacing
- £300,000 to improve footways
- £275,000 for bridge assessments
- £175,000 for flood prevention
- £150,000 for local safety schemes
- £60,000 for ditch and highway drainage
- £50,000 to help reduce congestion and improve air quality
- £50,000 for road safety markings
Cllr Andrew Johnson, lead member for infrastructure, transport policy and housing said: “Maintaining, improving and upgrading our highways network and flood defences is one of our top priorities and this boost will ensure that key schemes that will make our roads safer and protect our borough from flooding can get underway.
“We have set aside nearly £2 million to resurface roads across the borough after residents told us in the recent residents’ survey that this was important to them.
“I hope that this announcement will show residents we are very serious about our commitment to improve our highways and flood defences.”
This announcement follows the launch of the Royal Borough’s flagship 24 hour pothole scheme which will see all potholes (over 40mm on roads and 25mm on footpaths) fixed within 24 working hours of being reported.
