Saturday October 19th saw Doctor George McGavin, the eminent entomologist and TV presenter, open the Charity Christmas Card shop in the Cordes Hall, Sunninghill High Street. Doctor McGavin, a local resident for 30 years, praised the work of everyone involved in the setting up and running of the shop, especially the volunteers, without whom the shop could not function. He urged everybody to support Cards for Good causes, not least as a minimum of 70p in the pound goes back to the Charities. And as a parting aside, he reminded us that we should recycle the cards after Christmas!

The shop, which will be open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm until 16th December, has been an annual feature in Sunninghill for nearly 30 years. For the past 16 years, it has been managed  by Glen and Robert Couper, who have worked tirelessly over these years to build the shop into a serious contributor to the thirty-five local and national charities supported by Card for Good Causes. This year, they have handed over the management to John Cooke, to whom they have given their unstinting support to ensure the continued smooth running of the shop.

Apart from a huge range of Christmas cards, the shop also sells a range of Christmas gifts including books, traditional advent calendars, wrapping paper and toys.

Hullaballoonza, the family run Balloon Shop in Sunninghill, supplied a wonderful, eye-catching balloon display for the opening.

The shop will remain open until  Monday December 16th.
