The painting holiday.
Rural Costa Brava painting holidays are based on
combining relaxation and fun with stimulus, skilled guidance and a
small, friendly group of like-minded people. Tuition is in English. Group
sessions will be offered, mostly in the mornings, on issues such as colour
theory, painting techniques and composition, and individual guidance and
tuition will be available during the afternoon or early evening. But the
structure is flexible, and you can use your time as you choose. There is a
swimming pool, tennis court, table tennis, cycles and walks, as well as
peaceful places simply to sit and relax surrounded by leafy scenes, with
the Pyrenees in the distance. For excursions there are dozens of
interesting options, including the coast twenty minutes away.
Catalonia
in spring and autumn is very warm by British standards, perfect for
outdoor or indoor painting. Indoor painting can be done in the
‘Picasso’ studio, outdoor in numerous positions
on and around the spacious site. Helen and Francis run St Nicolau as a
holiday venue all year round, creating an atmosphere of welcome, safety,
artistic interest and good conversation. You may want to consider staying
some extra days before or after the painting holiday, in which case

Food and Accommodation.
Accommodation is in an individual room within a three
or four person cottage. Each cottage also has lounge, kitchen, bathroom
and patio. Linen is included but not towels. Towels can be hired at €4 a
week. A washing machine is available at €4 per use including washing
powder.
Food
is provided throughout the holiday in the form of a well-stocked kitchen,
with regular replenishment, and there is a reception meal together on the
first evening. The arrangement is basically self-catering and you can
alwways retreat to your own cottage but we encourage people to share lunch
or evening meal in the shaded barbecue area, to build the bonhomie of the
group and exchange views, and we are always happy to arrange to go out
together to one of the many charming local restaurants for an evening
meal. For additional or special food requirements we can advise or help
with local shopping.
We
are obliged to point out that our insurance does not cover your safety
off-site so please make sure you are covered by your own holiday
insurance.
Travel.
Travel to and from the venue is not included in the painting
holiday but there are several economical options from the UK and
elsewhere. Girona is the nearest airport to the venue (half an hour by
car) and receives economical flights from Stansted, Prestwick, Blackpoo,
Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and Luton as well as from Dublin and
other UK and European places.
Another
economical way to get there from the UK or northern Europe is to travel
through France by rail and pick up a hire car in the south of France. From
Perpignan to Mas San Nicolau is one hour by road, crossing the
French-Spanish border about half way. You can book tickets directly on the
French rail network by going to www.sncf.com
It
is advisable to have the use of a car if possible but it is not essential
as everything you need is on site, and we can advise or assist regarding
journeys to and from the airport. We may also be able to put you in touch
with other participants who would be interested in sharing a hire car.
